AHS Updates
What is IB?

All around campus, you’ve seen the logos. It’s on the school website and letterhead.

Join Mr. Fortunato to learn more about what International Baccalaureate actually is and what the Diploma Programme offers to students!

Parents of 9th and 10th grade students will find this meeting informative, helpful, and entertaining (well, as long as they like dad jokes, at least…).

So come out to AHS on September 24 from 6:30-7:30pm in the AHS Media Center and get your answer to the question “What is IB?”

Have a specific question you hope to have answered that evening?

ALPHARETTA HIGH SCHOOL FOUNDATION (AHSF)

Alpharetta High School Foundation would like to extend a big Raider ‘Thank you!’ to all those parents who stopped by our tables at the recent AHS Open House, Curriculum Night and Raider Fest!  Our Board members have been pleased to meet you, share more information about the nonprofit Foundation, and how it complements the work of the PTSA, Athletic Association and School Governance Council.

Through inclusive fundraising initiatives, AHSF is able to provide meaningful resources for students, staff and the school community, including:

  • scholarships for continuing education;
  • instructional grants and professional development for educators;
  • staff recognition to support retention;
  • impactful school-based programming; and
  • enhancements to campus facilities and equipment.

Currently, the Foundation is looking forward to collaborating with the PTSA around its Mini-Grants, and entertaining its own first round of grant applications for 2025-2026.

Parents, grandparents, and guardians of AHS students or alumni who are interested in learning more about the organization, or who have skills which may lend themselves to the organization, are invited to visit alpharettahighschoolfoundation.com and contact a Board member with any questions.

Welcome to Our New AHS Director of Choirs

Dear Alpharetta High School Community,

We are thrilled to officially announce Mrs. Savannah Cenicola as the new Director of Choirs at Alpharetta High School!

During the interview process, our committee was inspired by her uplifting personality, deep passion for choral music, and impressive expertise in the field.

We appreciate your patience as you've eagerly awaited this news, and we’re confident Mrs. Cenicola will be a fantastic addition to our Raider family.

To ensure a smooth transition, Mrs. Cenicola has been working closely with Mrs. Copeland over the past few weeks, prioritizing continuity and student success. Her energy and enthusiasm are already making a positive impact, and we can’t wait to see what she brings to our chorus community—especially at our upcoming fall concert in October.

Please join us in giving her a warm welcome to Raider Nation!

N. GA Educators at AHS

On September 10, Alpharetta hosted leaders and professors from the University of North Georgia on their Nighthawk Impact Tour. Attendees observed twenty-four classes from math, science, career tech, and modern languages. This half-day is another step in building lasting partnerships with institutions of influence.

Dear Me Letters

A “Dear Me” letter is written by current freshmen to their future self. This is a letter written BY them FOR them—no one else will read it. It is a snapshot of who and where they are at this moment.

The letter provides a fun and meaningful look back on their growth during high school, and hopefully will also be an inspiration for them to continue on a course of success, involvement, and growth!

This PTSA sponsored and managed activity has been an AHS tradition for decades!! All supplies are provided by the PTSA.

When students enter high school, they are filled with dreams for the future and excitement for what’s to come. Freshmen are also likely filled with anticipation and anxiety at the thought of the next four years.

This activity is designed to promote self-exploration and reflection and writing about them.

Students write (yes, they handwrite!) a few sentences to describe themselves: their interests both academically & outside the classroom, what is important to them, and how they felt upon entering high school. They write about their long-term goals, why graduation is an important milestone to them, what they hope to achieve, and where they see themselves in four years’ time and beyond.

This activity is completed during their ELA class in the month of September and requires no extra time on their part.

After students have finished writing, they seal the letter inside an envelope addressing the front of the envelope with their name and “Class of 2029” and give it to their ELA teacher.

All students who graduate from AHS receive their letter in the Senior Silver Envelopes in May.

THANK YOU to our freshman students and ELA teachers for supporting this activity during their class!

Reflections

National PTA has a long-standing commitment to arts education. The Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-created theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

The 2025-2026 Georgia PTA Reflections program theme is "I Belong!". The key to the Reflections program is the student interpreting the prompt any way they want to - this is theirs to think about and express however they desire!

The deadline for 2025-2026 AHS PTSA submissions will be Friday, October 3rd.Submissions should be brought to the AHS Media Center and placed in the labeled bin along with a completed Reflections Entry Form.

Senior Events Dues: Pay by October 1 Deadline

What a great start to the year for the Class of 2026! We've already had some fantastic events and have many more planned.

To fund our year-long budget for all senior activities and celebrations, we need your help. The October 1st deadline for senior dues is fast approaching. Paying these dues ensures we can provide all the fun, memorable activities our seniors deserve.

As an added bonus, this is the only way to receive an official AHS graduation yard sign this spring.

Please pay the senior dues for your student by October 1st to help us reach our financial goals to fund the full year of activities. Thank you!
