SENIORS

2023 Graduation Honor Cords

Graduating Seniors with a weighted Cumulative Numeric Average of 88 or above are eligible to wear an honor cord at graduation. The CNA on the transcript at this time, January 30, must be 88+- we will not look at spring semester grades for eligibility. Do not order a cord unless you are sure your senior met the 88+ Cumulative GPA as we cannot offer a refund if you order in error, you can check the parent Infinite Campus portal. Order on OSP – find “Honor Cords (Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude)”: Alpharetta HS (osmsinc.com) *Email Ms. Bolt at Boltk@fultonschools.org  with any questions.

HOPE/ZELL Eligibility

Transcripts have been loaded to GAFutures.org.  Please login to check your eligibility.  Many seniors gained or lost eligibility after the Fall semester.  Please check your GA Futures transcript and GPA.  Encourage students to resist Senioritis https://jlvcollegecounseling.com/2020/01/08/senioritis-and-the-last-semester-of-senior-year/ Login to GA Futures by visiting https://www.gafutures.org/hope-state-aid-programs/hope-zell-miller-scholarships/zell-miller-scholarship/. In addition, we still have several seniors who have not turned in their Social Security cards.  Emails from Ms. Taylor and Ms. Byrd will be going out to families that have not turned their SS cards in yet.

HOPE Career Grant

Is your senior undecided about going to a 4-year college? The HOPE Career Grant is available to HOPE Grant-qualified students who enroll in select majors specifically aligned with industries in which there are more jobs available in Georgia than there are skilled workers to fill them. These industries have been identified as strategically important to the state’s economic growth.  Career Tech Workforce Handout.docx  HOPE Career Grant | Georgia Student Finance Commission (gafutures.org)

FINANCIAL AID

Did you know that FAFSA Completion is one of the top indicators of college enrollment?

82% of Alpharetta’s c/o 2022 self-reported that they desired to attend college, but only 78% enrolled as of December 2022, and only 68% completed the FAFSA application.  As of today, 53% of our class of 2023 families have completed the FAFSA application.  Priority deadline for many colleges and universities is March 2023.  https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa Directions  FAFSA Handout.docx.  For assistance, please complete this form https://forms.office.com/r/4Pzz0wL2e3

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

Summit On-Site Counseling https://summitcounseling.org/schedule-an-appointment/

As a parent, you want what is best for your child, but it is not always easy to know what type of support they need. Mental health therapy helps your child better understand their personal needs and learn new skills to manage life situations and relationships more effectively. The Summit has partnered with private schools and public-school districts to offer confidential mental health therapy, conveniently located in the school. Students have the option to see their therapist at school during the day or at one of our offsite locations in the evening or on weekends. This flexibility allows the therapist to quickly intervene, so students get the help they need to achieve their best at school.

Bailey Little, M.Ed, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, has been assigned to Alpharetta High School.  Bailey’s days at AHS will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  FCS has partnered with Summit Onsite to provide school-based counseling services to students.  Students who may benefit from counseling can be referred regardless of insurance status.  There are several financial options available to ensure students receive the necessary supports.

Gwinnett Tech Dual Enrollment Application Help Day

Students applying to Gwinnett Tech for Dual Enrollment for Summer 2023 and/or Fall 2023 and/or Spring 2024 may meet Gwinnett Tech staff for help with applications during both lunches on Friday, March 3rd.  These sessions will be held in Room 1120 (Center of Excellence).

These sessions can help get you a quicker turnaround to be accepted to the college and also get help with:

  • Completing GTC Dual Enrollment Application
  • Completing Funding Application
  • Completing the DETA form
  • Test scores/high school transcript

AHS Coach of the Year

Congratulations to the AHS Coach of the Year 2021-2022, Alejandro Romero, head coach of the men’s soccer program.

IB Exams Help Needed!

Although it seems far off, IB Exams in May are just around the corner and we have a significant need for assistance with our exams this year. Any parents willing to assist with exams are much appreciated, and students do not need to be enrolled in IB classes for parents to assist. Exams will be during the weeks of April 28-May 17 and have both morning and afternoon exam sessions. We appreciate any and all assistance, however many and however few! Please also note that the only restrictions are that parents cannot assist with an exam for which their student is currently testing this year.

For more details and to volunteer for timeslots, please complete the form here<https://forms.office.com/r/iKTQ6aEFJE> so that Mr. Fortunato can follow up as we get closer to testing.

If you have any questions about IB or IB testing, please reach out to Frank Fortunato (fortunato@fultonschools.org).

AHS Staff Chili Cookoff & Trivia

AHS teachers and staff participated in a chili cookoff and music trivia during our February Professional Development Day. We had a wide variety of chilis including traditional, BBQ pork, Cincinnati and Texas style, Thai, and venison! Staff voted on the spiciest, most unique take on a classic, and best in show. Congratulations to our winners including the Social Studies department who crushed music trivia. We would like to thank Frank Fortunato and the AHS F.U.N. committee for coordinating the cookoff and the music trivia.  And a huge shout out to our PTSA for providing coffee and donuts that morning and funding all the toppings!

Faculty Fruit Stand

The Alpharetta PTSA has been able to make some wonderful donations to our school this year on behalf of the parent community. These grants allow for innovative, exciting activities that would not normally be possible under the traditional school budget. The PTSA makes every dollar count--no donation is too small! Thank you for your generous donations to the PTSA!

This week we are featuring a grant for a Staff Wellness initiative. Spearheaded by the creative Suite 1255 staff (Kelly Talele, Derek Wright, and Whitney Jankovic), a staff fruit stand was created. Thanks to a generous mini grant we have been able to provide fresh fruit for our staff this semester. It’s a huge hit and everyone loves having apples, oranges, bananas, and grapes to snack on throughout the week. We appreciate the PTSA making the fruit stand happen!

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) offers a unique opportunity for sophomores and juniors from North Fulton high schools who wish to develop leadership skills, identify and address community issues and interact with local leaders. This is accomplished through a combination of interactive lectures, discussions, site visits, outside activities, community service, and networking opportunities.

2023-2024 Applications OPEN https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sv/C8Azj7l/ELP2023
