Financial Aid

Did you know that FAFSA Completion is one of the top indicators of college enrollment?

82% of Alpharetta’s c/o 2022 self-reported that they desired to attend college, but only 78% enrolled as of December 2022, and only 68% completed the FAFSA application.  As of today, 55% of our class of 2023 families have completed the FAFSA application (up 2% from February).  Priority deadline for many colleges and universities is March 2023.  https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa Directions  FAFSA Handout.docx.  For assistance, please complete this form https://forms.office.com/r/4Pzz0wL2e3

Atlanta Bar Association’s Summer Law Internship Program

The Internship Program’s mission is to place rising high school seniors and recent graduates in paid legal internships so that they can gain first-hand experience in the legal profession. Applications will be available on Friday, February 10, 2023, and the deadline to submit completed applications is Thursday, March 23, 2023. In person interviews are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. This summer’s Intern Program will run from May 31, 2023, to July 21, 2023. Interns are not allowed to have any second jobs, band practices, sports practices or otherwise that conflict with or impact your internship. (Every year we have prospective Interns request that they be allowed to miss mandatory Intern events due to conflicts, have different dates for their internships, etc. The Intern Program dates are set. You are all-in or you are not.)

  • Students will be a paid a Stipend totaling $2000. To access the application (as of February 10, 2023) and to obtain additional information about SLIP, please check our program websites at www.abaslip.blogspot.com or Facebook.

Common App announced that the 2023-2024 essay prompts will remain the same. We hope that by sharing the prompts now, students will have the time they need to reflect on their own personal stories and begin thinking about what they want to share with colleges. MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

Summit On-Site Counseling https://summitcounseling.org/schedule-an-appointment/

As a parent, you want what is best for your child, but it is not always easy to know what type of support they need. Mental health therapy helps your child better understand their personal needs and learn new skills to manage life situations and relationships more effectively. The Summit has partnered with private schools and public-school districts to offer confidential mental health therapy, conveniently located in the school. Students have the option to see their therapist at school during the day or at one of our offsite locations in the evening or on weekends. This flexibility allows the therapist to quickly intervene, so students get the help they need to achieve their best at school.

Bailey Little, M.Ed, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, has been assigned to Alpharetta High School.  Bailey’s days at AHS will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  FCS has partnered with Summit Onsite to provide school-based counseling services to students.  Students who may benefit from counseling can be referred regardless of insurance status.  There are several financial options available to ensure students receive the necessary supports.

SUMMER GROUPS AT SUMMIT

Summit_SummerSchoolBased_Brochure_v5-0.pdf

We have finalized our summer groups schedule and I wanted to share it with you all so you can start letting families you think may benefit know about the groups! A reminder that our summer groups take place at our various satellite office locations for 6 weeks during the summer. These groups are based on current grade level and are free of charge to students at Summit On-Site schools, including AHS. Parents need to register their student ahead of time and that can be done by calling the office at 678-893-5300, or using this link: https://summitcounseling.org/summer-groups-the-summit/ .

Exceptional Children’s Week at AHS

We celebrated our exceptional students at AHS last week during Exceptional Children’s Week from March 6-10. For our students, the celebration included Da Vinci donuts, Zaxby’s gift cards, pancake breakfast, and, the opportunity to socialize with each other over Chick-fil-A breakfast and cupcakes!! We also celebrated our wonderful SEC staff this week by hosting a “Thank you for all that you do” staff luncheon.

Thank you to SEC department chair Ms. Pauline Edwards for helping plan this week-long celebration. A HUGE shout out to the volunteers that did the beautiful decorations and that delivered the food, making this event extra special!

The entire celebration was sponsored by AHS PTSA and AHS Student Council.

IB Exams Help Needed!

Although it seems far off, IB Exams in May are just around the corner and we have a significant need for assistance with our exams this year. Any parents willing to assist with exams are much appreciated, and students do not need to be enrolled in IB classes for parents to assist. Exams will be during the weeks of April 28-May 17 and have both morning and afternoon exam sessions. We appreciate any and all assistance, however many and however few! Please also note that the only restrictions are that parents cannot assist with an exam for which their student is currently testing this year.

For more details and to volunteer for timeslots, please complete the form here<https://forms.office.com/r/iKTQ6aEFJE> so that Mr. Fortunato can follow up as we get closer to testing.

If you have any questions about IB or IB testing, please reach out to Frank Fortunato (fortunato@fultonschools.org).
